We asked founders how they prepare for Web Summit and why they decided to participate in Online edition.

Web Summit 2020 is going to be online and it expects to reach 100K visitors from around the world. The conference takes place on 2-4 December 2020 on Western European Time (Lisbon/London/Dublin).

ORTY

Startup Reporter (SR):Michael Popchuk, please, tell us what your startup is doing? Where did the idea come from and why you decided to work on it?

Michael:ORTY is an all-in-one restaurant management platform that provides restaurants with the means to accept digital orders for delivery, dine-in, takeaway and curbside pickup. Available out of the box, immediately after the registration.

The founding team was on a consulting engagement in China. There we realized how much the hospitality tech experience is different from what it is in the West. In China, restaurants can be managed from the mobile phone, not requiring specific hardware or professional services to deploy the system.

But what’s more important – it was how the diners interact with the restaurants. In the majority of places, one can browse the menu, order and pay from the regular messaging app. Being identified this way, the diner would continue receiving promotions, requests for feedback or just chatting with the restaurant in case of questions.

So we realized it is a huge opportunity to introduce a fresh view on a legacy industry in the West.

ORTY is building a restaurant management system for QSR and fast-casual restaurants to enable them to quickly launch any means of digital ordering they can imagine, own their customer relationship in social media automated channels and manage it all in one tool that is easy to use even from the mobile phone.

SR: – Michael, please, tell us what do you expect from your participation in the Web Summit 2020?

Michael: – In my opinion – Web Summit is one of the must be places of the global startups’ ecosystem.
It facilitates the spreading of knowledge and ideas among digital innovators and thus accelerating the pace of global innovations.

As ORTY is now in the stage of an active scaling, we are looking for insights and growth strategies from peer startups, meeting potential partners and investors from a global ecosystem.

SR: Why did you decide to participate in the Web Summit Online Edition?

Michael: – We didn’t participate previously as ORTY only launched in 2019. But it always was clear that WebSummit is a place to go whenever you want to introduce yourself and inspire from peers.

So, yes, that’s a pity that the format is online – we’d be glad to meet face to face, of course.

But we believe it is still going to be of a huge value to inspire from others, introduce ourselves, meet new partners and investors.

SR:What would be your advice for better preparation for Web Summit to other founders who think to participate in an online conference?

Michael: – Preparation would never harm. I believe one should definitely have their 1min/3min pitch nailed, have two versions of pitch deck- to send out and to present while pitching. And, of course, the investor deck ready with a clear statement of what investment you are looking for now.

One should also approach people directly – in an app or otherwise. Only I would ask everyone to please not spam irrelevant people. The reach out, although short, would be much more of a value when it is personalized and tailored to the case.

SR: – What would you like to wish the readers?

Michael: – I wish readers a good luck and ideas that would inspire them.
