The collaborative digital event “Hamburg meets Tel Aviv” brings together key players from Germany’s second-largest city with Israel’s most promising tech startups.

On 14/15 December four online formats will focus on the role of AI in the logistics sector, female entrepreneurship and investment culture in Israel and Germany. Experts from all fields, such as Digital Hub Logistics, Techstars Tel Aviv, and theDOCK, will exchange their experiences and ideas in discussion panels, an interactive panel, startup pitches and inspiring 12min.me keynotes.

Hamburg and Tel Aviv are global pioneers for innovative business models. Both metropolises are the origin of some of the most successful and influential startups in the recent past. Also, in times of the pandemic, the ties between Europe’s and Israel’s startup systems are very strong.

As a digital event “Hamburg meets Tel Aviv” aims to connect key players from Hamburg’s industry with Israeli tech startups. Over the course of two days, participants from both regions will have the opportunity to connect, gain important insights on market entry and present their solutions to leading corporates. The event is organized for the second time by Hamburg Invest and the German-Israeli Chamber of Commerce (AHK).

Building transnational connections: empowering female entrepreneurship and unpacking investment cultures

Kickoff will be on 14 December at 9:00 h CET / 10:00 h IST with the event “Female Founders Connect – why Gender matters in Entrepreneurship”. Although the imbalance is decreasing, female entrepreneurs are still significantly underrepresented in the startup world.

In so-called 12min.me keynotes, outstanding female experts from both the startup sector as well as from esteemed female networks will present themselves and enable an open exchange for female founders in Germany and Israel. 12min.me means each keynote is limited to twelve minutes, with an additional six minutes reserved for questions and input from the audience.

Confirmed speakers are Heidrun Twesten, Founder and Managing Partner at Impacct GmbH and Co-Host of the Podcast EQUALIZER, Hilla Ovil-Brenner, Managing Director at Techstars Tel Aviv, and Miriam Schütt, Founder & CEO of Sofa Concerts.

Even in today’s agile business environment female founders are in the minority, but the practice shows that women make an important impact as entrepreneurs.

It is vital for the international startup-scene to integrate women in dispositive positions to further foster innovation. I am very excited to start the event with an open discussion on such an important topic.

explains Heidrun Twesten, Founder and Manager at Impacct GmbH

At 10:30 h CET / 11:30 h IST, the interactive panel “Unpacking the Investment Cultures in Israel and Germany” will explore stereotypes and differences in investment culture between both countries. Experienced VCs from Israel and Germany will teach practical knowledge and give insights preparing startups for the foreign market and creating new connections between both countries.

Artificial Intelligence: disruption and transformation in the field of logistics

On 15 December 2021, the event focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of logistics: AI has been a game-changer for most business sectors. Especially in the logistics sector, with innovative and smart AI solutions on the rise.

At 9:00 h CET / 10:00 h IST the discussion panel “Challenges in Modern Logistics: The Role of AI in transforming the Industry” aims to examine the effect of AI in logistics by connecting leading experts from the sector. The panel of experts consists of Johannes Berg, Managing Director at Digital Hub Logistics; Elisabeth Weißbecker, Project Manager at Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg e.V. (ARIC); and Dr Florian Vogt, Director at Innovation Contact Service Hamburg.

At 10:30 h CET / 11:30 h IST, AI-based startups in logistics from Israel will have the chance to pitch their business models to corporates from Hamburg: Each startup will have eight minutes to convince key players from Hamburg’s industry of their solution. This format is a one-of-a-kind matchmaking opportunity for promising startups and potential investors. Participating corporates from Hamburg include Deutsche Post DHL Group and Volkswagen Group Logistics.

Israel is one of the world’s leading startup hubs. ‘Hamburg meets Tel Aviv’ is a great opportunity for us to connect high impact newcomers in the tech sector with Hamburg’s established companies. There are many links between Hamburg and Tel Aviv.

Particularly during the ongoing pandemic digital workshops are a crucial occasion to stay in touch and to cultivate international connections. Certainly, Hamburg meets Tel Aviv is also a wonderful chance to open up for a more diverse audience.

We believe that this exchange will be hugely beneficial to all parties and create an exciting and productive environment.
