First-ever EU Startup Policy Hackathon to Address Challenges and Opportunities for European Startups
Allied for Startups and the European Startup Network are pleased to announce their collaboration on the upcoming EU Startup Policy Hackathon.
This event is set to tackle Europe’s innovation gap and strengthen the continent’s global entrepreneurial standing. Scheduled for 28 March in Brussels, the Hackathon will bring together policymakers, founders, investors, and startup associations across Europe.
The Hackathon’s primary goal is to identify startup and scale-up growth barriers, propose practical solutions, and contribute recommendations for the forthcoming EU Startup and Scale-up Strategy. Participants will participate in working groups focused on different stages of the startup lifecycle, culminating in a final pitch session before policymakers, including Ekaterina Zaharieva, Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation.
Serena Borbotti-Frison, Director-General of Allied for Startups, stated:
“The upcoming EU Startup and Scale-up Strategy is vital for Europe’s innovation ecosystem. This Hackathon offers startups a strong platform to shape a strategy that will drive their future growth and competitiveness. Startups are the backbone of Europe’s economy, and this is an opportunity to create a framework that eliminates obstacles and fosters innovation.”
Clark Parsons, CEO of the European Startup Network, echoed this sentiment:
“European startups and scale-ups have long awaited meaningful recognition from the EU as key drivers of innovation and economic prosperity. We are delighted that European leaders, particularly President von der Leyen, have become strong advocates for startups. However, with new legislative plans to support the startup ecosystem, it is crucial that we actively contribute. Our member organisations are excited to collaborate in this Policy Hackathon, bringing together key stakeholders to propose impactful priorities. The ESN looks forward to working with the European Commission, Parliament, and Council to ensure Europe’s future competitiveness begins today.”
“By working together, we can build momentum and make Europe the best place in the world to launch and scale a startup. We are excited to partner with the European Startup Network on this initiative and unite the startup community to drive meaningful transformation,” added Borbotti-Frison.
