Lugano-based agtech consolidator adds 8 million tracked hectares and a foothold in sugarcane and biofuel data, marking its sixth global deal and second in Brazil in a year — with fresh backing from BlackRock.

xFarm Technologies, the Swiss agri-food tech platform, is making its most strategic Latin American move yet. The company announced today it is bringing Sibium Analytics — a Brazilian geospatial and business intelligence provider focused on sugarcane and biofuel — into its ecosystem, in a deal that pushes xFarm deeper into one of the world’s most valuable agricultural value chains.

It’s xFarm’s sixth acquisition globally and its second in Brazil in under a year, following last year’s integration of Checkplant. The transaction was backed by a mix of existing investors and a new partner: BlackRock.

Why sugarcane, and why now

Brazil is the world’s top producer of soybean, sugarcane, and coffee, farming between 75 and 80 million hectares — agribusiness alone accounts for more than a quarter of the country’s GDP.

Sugarcane sits at the center of that economy, feeding both food production and Brazil’s low-carbon fuel industry: the sector generates roughly 36.8 billion liters of ethanol and 21,218 GWh of bioelectricity a year.

Sibium brings 8 million tracked hectares — around 70% of Brazil’s total sugarcane production — into xFarm’s network, plus over 15 years of sector-specific expertise.

Its product suite includes Sigma (satellite remote sensing and crop mapping), Ambium (ESG and carbon-intensity auditing), and Data View (agro-environmental BI dashboards).

Combined with its existing coverage of corn, soy, cotton, coffee, citrus, and grapes in Brazil, xFarm now positions itself as a single data provider spanning nearly every major crop in the country.

What changes for customers

The integration is designed to be additive rather than disruptive for both customer bases:

  • Sibium’s clients — mostly sugarcane mills and biofuel processors — get access to xFarm’s IoT stack: hyper-local weather stations, field sensors, and AI-powered Decision Support Systems for operational planning and supply chain forecasting.
  • xFarm’s existing clients across all crops gain access to Sibium’s remote-sensing and ESG/traceability tools, which xFarm says will speed up sustainability certifications and risk monitoring across Latin America.
  • Enterprise partners in food, finance, and insurance get one auditable data source across multi-crop, multi-country supply chains — a pitch aimed squarely at companies managing ESG and traceability risk at scale.

xFarm CEO Matteo Vanotti framed the deal as the latest step toward “world-class data-driven decision-making” across the full agricultural value chain. Sibium director Ronaldo Marani described joining the group as a “natural evolution” for the company, pointing to the ability to serve new crops through xFarm’s broader platform.

With this deal, xFarm now says it supports over 600,000 farms across 24 million hectares globally. The company has been on an acquisition run since closing its €36 million Series C in October 2024, backed by Partech, Mouro Capital, and United Ventures, among others — absorbing Spain’s Greenfield Technologies and France’s SpaceSense in 2024, and Brazil’s Checkplant in 2025.

The pattern is clear: rather than building crop-by-crop or country-by-country from scratch, xFarm is buying its way into vertical and geographic depth, betting that the agri-food data market rewards scale and breadth over specialisation.
